USA 3  -0 CHILE

The U.S. Women’s National Team beat Chile 3-0 in their second Group F game at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France Sunday. It's been an expected turn of events here with this match. But what wasn't expected is such small margin of victory. Endler deserves all the praise she is getting. One point does come through in a game like this. With the game against Thailand and now against Chile, USA has barely seen its defense tested. Sweden will not be this easy an opponent and so it will be interesting to see how the women rise up to the challenge. For now, Lloyd and USA will want to celebrate these well-deserved 3 points and that comfortable spot on top of the table.

The thorn in USA's path today has undoubtedly been Christiane Endler. Brilliant saves to deny Horan and Press from widening the margin of difference. The PSG player is a keeper. (Get it?)

Endler is not going to let another 13-0 happen it seems like. Then again, Alex Morgan is out of play, as is the quickfire Rapinoe. USA won't be too bothered though. 3-0 is good enough. More may just come its way.

With a loss to Sweden and a winnable game against Thailand up next, if Chile was going to have a chance to move forward in the tournament, they probably needed at least a draw in the game. They were compact and organized, though a few mistakes may mean that the result of the next game won’t matter and the World Cup will be over after the next game. In the end, they couldn’t contain the US attack and a brace from Carli Lloyd and goal from Julie Ertz would bring all three points to the Americans.

A solid performance from the US, who fielded a weakened side. Without the excellent Endler in goal for Chile, the US could have scored five or six They should have got four, but Lloyd missed a penalty.

Press, Ertz and Lloyd were good for the US, although we knew how strong they are before the game. Of the subs, McDonald did enough to suggest she could be worth a start later in the tournament. But the big question mark for the US - their defence - remains. Thailand and Chile simply have not offered enough in attack for the defenders to be tested. Against Sweden, who beat the US at the 2016 Olympics, that may well change.

For me, the player of the match was Endler, who kept the score respectable. She was commanding in the box, claiming crosses well and her save off a Press header in the second-half was the best I have seen in this tournament.

US progress to the last 16. Galaz was booked - for an apparent elbow. Although she claims she was the elbowed rather than the elbowee.

Would a part of the US want their defence to have been tested a little more in this match? As it is, they are going into playing some very good teams with their defenders receiving very little in-game action.
